An uncle who would never cross a dining room to introduce himself will absolutely end up chatting on a dock while looking at boats. That is the whole trick, and the venue does it for you.
A Better First Impression
For guests flying in, this is their first real look at the Hamptons. A working waterfront at sunset sets a very different tone than a hotel function room or a restaurant beside the highway.
It also tells out-of-town guests something useful about where they are. Sag Harbor is a harbor town. Starting the weekend on the water makes the rest of it make sense.

The marina is open 24 hours and our team is on site year round. The property has WiFi. We are roughly three miles from Sag Harbor village, so guests should plan to drive or arrange a shuttle.

Making the Introductions Actually Happen
The venue helps, but a few decisions make a large difference.
Do Not Seat People for the Whole Evening
If you assign seats for three hours, you have decided in advance who meets whom. Most couples regret this afterward.
A standing first hour, then loose seating, then people up and moving again works far better. The docks make that natural rather than something you have to engineer.
Keep the Toasts Short and Early
Long toast sessions late in the evening are where rehearsal dinners lose momentum. People have eaten, the light has gone, and attention drops.
Two or three short toasts, early, while everyone is still fresh. Anyone determined to give a speech will find a moment at the wedding.
Give People a Reason to Move
A dessert or drinks station somewhere other than where dinner happened will move a room more effectively than any amount of encouragement. Put it at the far end and people will walk, and they will talk to somebody new on the way.
Introduce Deliberately
The couple should plan a handful of specific introductions in advance. Not everyone, just the ones that matter. Two aunts who will be seated together at the wedding, for example.

For Guests Traveling In
Directions Are Worth Getting Right
We are roughly three miles from Sag Harbor village, in the Pine Neck area of Noyac. Guests using a map application should search the full address at 51 Pine Neck Ave rather than the business name alone.
Put the address on the invitation and mention the drive. Out-of-town guests often assume everything in Sag Harbor is walkable from the village, and it is not.
Plan the Return Trip
Rehearsal dinners involve drinking on the night before a wedding, three miles from where most people are staying. Car service on the East End in July books up.
Arrange it in advance rather than leaving forty people to sort it out at ten in the evening.
Timing Around Arrivals
If most of your guests are flying in that day, do not schedule for six o'clock. Traffic east on a summer Friday is unpredictable, and a dinner that starts an hour late loses its light.
Seven or seven thirty gives people room to land, check in, and change without arriving flustered. It also puts you closer to the good light rather than past it.
Who Actually Gets Invited
The traditional answer is the wedding party and immediate family. In practice most couples widen it to include anyone who traveled a long distance.
Decide early, because the number drives everything else. A dinner for eighteen and a dinner for sixty are different events, and switching between them late is expensive and stressful.
Start the Weekend on the Water
The night before the wedding sets the temperature for everything after it. Somewhere people can move, talk, and watch the light go down over the bay does that better than a room with assigned seats.
